Season 5, Episode 18 - My New Suit

April 11, 2006

J.D.'s brother Dan (Tom Cavanagh) makes a return visit. He's upset because their mom is pressing him to get a real job since his bartending gig isn't really going anywhere. J.D.'s a little worried because he kept telling Dan that Elliot still liked him, even after they broke up. J.D. barely has enough time to warn her that Dan is coming before he is knocking at her door, just in time to see Keith exit. Dan is of course a little upset that J.D. didn't tell him the truth. J.D. further perpetuates his deception by saying that the reason Elliot stopped seeing him was because she wants to have kids right now and Dan doesn't.

Again, J.D. has to get to Elliot before Dan does. He reaches her in time, but she doesn't want to go along with his game. When Dan arrives, Elliot plays along anyway, saying that she could be pregnant now with Keith's baby. Dan takes the news relatively well.

J.D.'s patient Herbert, who is extremely obese, has checked-in again. He has acute back pain but no other indication of what's wrong with him. They need to do an MRI, but none of their machines will accommodate his size. Instead of tip-toeing around the issue, Elliot made it very clear that Herbert's weight issues were the main cause of his problems and that he needs to do something about it. She mentions to J.D. that he needs to be that blunt with Dan about him and Elliot.

While packing his things, J.D. finally tells Dan the real reasons why he and Elliot would not make a good fit. Dan's response is no response. But later, before he's about to drive off, he asks to borrow one of J.D.'s suits for a job interview. Maybe he's changing after all.

Meanwhile, Carla wants Turk to keep the potential names of their baby, Angie or George, a secret. Turk can barely hold it in before he tells J.D. Carla is furious when she realizes that their secret is out. They later decide that they don't like the names.

Dr. Kelso makes Dr. Cox work with Ted the lawyer on explaining the medical jargon on some insurance cases. It's punishment after Cox made fun of Kelso's gay son. He broke the cardinal rule about making comments about other people's kids. Cox later apologizes and stays while Kelso tells him things about his son.
